The Significance of October

Coming up half-way through the month of October, there is a sense of growing anticipation with the holiday season almost upon us. While it is easy to neglect October as simply the bridge month for our turkey dinners or creamy eggnogs, it has more significance than most would think. And no, I am not talking about the trick or treating or the fact that the basketball season is starting, I am talking about October being National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Did you Know?

Since its inception in 2004, the awareness month, created by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance, sought to educate Americans on how to stay safe online. This year’s theme, “Own IT. Secure IT. Protect IT,” places a key focus on consumer privacy among a host of other issues.

What does the Data Say?

Interestingly enough, according to a research done by branchlevelindex.com, October actually has had the lowest amount of records lost in comparison to all the other months in the past year. Could it be that there is a correlation between October being National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and October receiving the fewest amount of records lost? And if so, it begs the question, shouldn’t every month be National Cybersecurity Awareness month?
